5 Summer Music Festivals to Enjoy Before the Season is Over

According to our calculations, half the summer is already over. And whether you’re a summer’s half-empty or half-full type of person will determine how that statement finds you. But don’t stress or fear! There is still plenty to do on the west coast while the sun remains high and hot in the sky like an myriad of outdoor summer music festivals. Whether you live in Washington, Oregon or California, we have a stupendous recommendation for you! So get your Tarukino products (I recommend Happy Apple or Utopia Sparking Water), get your buzz on and enjoy!

Pickathon (Aug 2-5, Happy Valley, OR): Perhaps the most serene event of the summer on the west coast, this picturesque, acoustic-based showcase brings together music lovers and outdoor enthusiasts in the cute little alcove of Happy Valley, OR. Built To Spill, Shovels & Rope and Sera Cahoone are but a few of the magical events at Pickathon this year.

Summer Meltdown (Aug 2-5, Darrington, WA): This hippy summer music festival brings together the campers, jam bands and kombucha lovers from all over at the foot of a beautiful Washington mountain. Enjoy the sounds of the Moondoggies, Lemolo, Smokey Brights and Dave B while eating some of the best festival cuisine around at the Summer Meltdown.

SPF30 (Aug 10-11, Seattle, WA): This once-in-a-lifetime extravaganza will celebrate the historic Seattle-based record label, Sub Pop, and its 30-year history. Enjoy music in West Seattle from some of the label’s most historic and groundbreaking bands, including Mudhoney, Shabazz Palaces and Beach House. SPF30 will only be around this year, so get your tickets!

Outside Lands (Aug 10-12, San Francisco, CA): No place on earth screams summer music festival enjoyment quite like San Francisco. And this year’s Outside Lands offers a lineup that will knock your rainbow socks off. From The Weeknd, Florence and the Machine, ODESZA, Beck and Mac DeMarco, this dreamscape of music is worth traveling for.

Bumbershoot (Aug 31-Sep 2, Seattle, WA): The yearly exclamation point to the summer festival season, Bumbershoot always brings a musical wallop to Seattle Center. This year, stellar bands like Fleet Foxes, Portugal. The Man, Lil Wayne, SZA and Cold War Kids grace the stage – along with about a bajillion others. It’s the festival you go to in order to wave ta-ta to summer and hello to – gasp – fall!

This only skims the surface of summer music festivals to get outside and enjoy before the season ends. Make sure to check out The Stranger and or Seattle Met for more events around the area!
